LA fitness vs 24 hr fitness?
which do you prefer, i started out at 24 and i was extremely dissapointed there trainers stink and dont give what is promised for your 300.00 and the gyms are often small and overcrowded during peak times. i swiched to LA fitness and alothough a small increase in dues the gyms are much bigger alot cleaner(bathrooms are spotless) and i actually see them cleaning the machines somthing i never saw at 24, so if you can afford the 10.00 extra a month there no comparison LA all the way

Suggestion by sunlow
i have never been to 24hr fitness, but i am a member at LA fitness, & I love it

Suggestion by Consuming Fire
I’ve never been to LA fitness, but I like 24. All gyms I’ve been to do get crowded, especially during peak times, but other than that I haven’t really had any problems.

Give your answer to this question below!
I want to join a new sport what one?
Well im 14 i do Martial Arts , i wanna try other sports aswell , i have good pace and ill just tell you some of my qualitys -fast paced , good agility good movement good reactions and when im at peak fitness i can go 3 hours training without breaking a sweat-well maybe a little lol and well im interested in another sport , any ideas ?

Suggestion by Jake
Football is the best mufc 4 life

Suggestion by Robert M
no idea. your description does not help one bit

Suggestion by Ande Snn
No, I don’t think so.

Give your answer to this question below!

13 Year Old Rugby preparation training? Tips?
I am 13 years, 5’1 102 pounds, I am trying to get to my peak fitness, speed and strength for rugby this winter (New Zealander.). At The Moment I am Doing Circuit Training and Sprint training, During My circuit i do low weight high rep bench-press, skipping, boxing bag, press ups, sit ups and other high intensity training, I have a good low fat high protein and carbohydrate diet. Have you Got Any Tips?
I am An Openside Flanker.

Suggestion by Music Addict
Not really i think ur in good shape.

Suggestion by exmatelote
Add some dips and chin ups to that routine, which I think is pretty damn good btw. I’m always hearing the NZTV guys go on about training run, so don’t be shy of putting in a few 5km runs too. How much fruit do you eat? A few peices at breakfast before a game helps me.

Suggestion by andy the man
your fitness seems to be in order, although i’d do something such as a ladders drill (not the one you climb on!!) to get your change of direction improved and do some excerises for your leg muscles since that is key for a rugby…..but when you go for a run do it with a rugby ball in both hands, it will make your handling near perfect and also build up your technique of running with the ball

also work on your catching the high ball, this is something ive seen against almost every team ive played against, no one except the full back knows how to catch the high ball…. kick a ball up in the air and catch from side on while in the air and remember to jump since you cant be tackled in the air

ive been playing since i was 5 and play for school 1st XV, club and have played national youth so i know what im talking about when it comes to this stuff..hope you take my advice

Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!

Has anyone ever like plateau in their training?
I’m not sure if its me or who I train under? I study Kenpo Jujutsu. My Sensei works out of a fitness club so we are trying to practice with music playing and people walking in to use machines that are in the room. Besides that I feel I’ve reached a peak that I feel blah. I like martial arts and even though I’m not a brown belt, I help newer students and also adjust my own basics to better my art.
My Sensei stress’ scenarios and power hitting, but I’m more intrigued with how to,history, etiquette of martial arts. I only practice twice a week once with advanced students and then a escrima class. What am I missing? I know train more but its hard with job and family. If I am treating it like hobby should not even do it? Please help.

Suggestion by Irish1952
I don’t know much about jujutsu, but it sounds as if a sensei whose interests (in history, etiquette, etc) match your own might put new interest into it for you.

Suggestion by BUSHIDO
maybe your trying to go to far to quick?it’s also possible your sensei is letting you spend to much time teaching instead of learning?it would also be unusual for a sensie to only stress 2 or 3 things.i dont think anyone can really answer this only you.

Suggestion by Shadow Warrior
It sounds like you need more of a structured environment. It seems like there are too many distractions going on that prevent you from learning.
It’s good to teach others what you know because it helps to tighten your own game, but if at your level you find yourself teaching more than you are learning, that’s a problem and you should discuss it with your sensei.
It’s completely normal to sometimes hit plateaus, but this doesn’t sound like you’ve hit a plateau, it sounds like you need more structure. Good luck!

Can you get military ready in 6 months? (Fitness)?
Hi All,

I have a question, i am 26 work a desk job to be honest do far less exercise than I should… i am 5″9 and weigh about 85KG my question is while I am not going to join the military in 6 months can I become military ready in terms of fitness? How much out of my day should I put aside for training and what kind would I need to do?

Many Thanks

Thanks

Suggestion by BigRichGuy
It sounds reasonable. I would do exercises geared toward increasing your endurance. Believe me, if you’re not in shape when you show up, they’ll get you that way. It’s just less painful if you are already fit.

Suggestion by Elliot
Say what? Join the military?? Are you stock and barrel erratic?? Who joins the military in the first place?!

Suggestion by robert d
Well let’s see. I join in 4 months and by far not as far along as I was 2 months ago. I run\jog 2 miles 3 day and 1 off and do it again that way. 100 push up a night and sit ups. I weighted 220 pounds 3 months ago and now weight 198 and I am 6’1. I work IT so I was over weight and do not do much. Now I feel so good after doing all this and I am so ready to go off to boot camp. I pumped up! Ready to get it over with.

Give your answer to this question below!
Military School Fitness Test?
I am a sophomore in high school, and I was thinking about applying to Annapolis, West Point, or The Air force Academy for college. I know i am premature in thinking about this, but I want to be as prepared as possible. I know that you have to pass a physical fitness test before you gain admittance into the college, so I wanted to prepare myself before hand for this test. I play baseball at my high school, but I have noticed I have hardly any stamina. Do you know any ways to improve stamina, as well as any other tips you have for the physical fitness test? Any help would be great, thanks!

Suggestion by Vettepilot
It is called the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) and consists of a basketball throw, pullups, shuttle run, situps, pushups, and a 1 mile run. If you go to page 8 of the link I put into sources you will see more details. That link will also be helpful at least for USAFA since the CFA is only a small portion of all the admissions considerations.

USAF Basic Military Training Fitness?
Hi, I’m going to BMT in 3 months and i heard a lot of comments that BMT is very hard, i will really like to know how hard it is, my recruiter told me that i’ll do a lot of fitness like 3 to 5 times a week anyways i know that i have to do a lot of push ups, do i really have to make 45 push ups since day 1, or they gonna give me training to do that and also how many push ups do i need to make before to go to BMT.

I hope to receive professional help because the fitness area its something that im worry about it
thank you very much

Suggestion by txguy8800
I am an Air Force retiree.

Air Force Basic Training is the least physical of all branches of the services. This is because the Air Force puts an emphasis on your mind and your ability to use your mind over the braun of your body.

My suggestion to be prepared is to be able to run 2 miles easily. At Basic, you will have a timed 1.5 mile run and you need to be about to complete this easily. Don’t train for long distance because the pace of the mile and a half will tire you. If you can run 2 miles in 10-14 minutes, you should be great.

Next, just be able to do normal exercise. If you want to put emphasis on anything, put in on your hand strength. The obstacle course is not difficult, but I fell in the water twice with the monkey bars. If you can do about 10 yards on monkey bars you will be okay. If you can’t, you’ll just get wet, you won’t fail. The water is about 3 foot deep.

In summary, be able to do 2 miles easily running, work on your upper body strength with an emphasis on hand strength. Be able to do about 25 push ups, sit ups and toe-touches. No you don’t need to do 45 push ups on day one!

The good news is that everything you do, you’ll build up to it. For example, you’ll start off at running a 1/4 mile, and eventually work your way up to 1.5 miles.

The bad news is in three months in San Antonio Texas it will be hot as hell. You’ll need to be about to work out in the heat. But, don’t worry, on really hot days they put up a red flag on base and you can’t go outside to work out. Just drink a lot of water and you’ll be okay.

If you need to email me, feel free to.

www.ericjmoss.com I received an email from a soldier asking for some exercises for him and his unit who were trying to open a crossfit style gym on their base. I couldn’t recommend anything better then the 6 fundamental movements we use at the RKC. The swing the turkish getup the clean the press the front squat the snatch grinds (tgu, press, squat) should be done with low reps and heavy weight. no more then 5 ballistics (swing, clean, snatch) can be done for any number of reps but i recommend over 10 so you can get unbelievable conditioning from it. best of luck to our armed forces “Avenger” used with permission.

Does anyone know about fitness careers? websites?
To be a trainer do you need a degree in cardiovascular physiology? How about to be an aerobic instructor? What other things can people do in the ‘fitness’ field?

Suggestion by Optimum Physique
You do not need a degree to be a trainer but you must be willing to learn as much as you can about your trade. Remember, you will be responsible for working with people who have had injuries, hypertension, diabetes, etc. Do not do this if you are not willing to learn all you can because your actions can hurt someone.

ISSA is a great place to get your certification because their testing and textbooks require much attention to detail. It also help if you have actual experience working out. It makes it easier t comprehend what you are being taught.

Other areas of interest in the fitness field are: strength and conditioning coach, fitness bootcamp instuctor, etc. You can keep going on your certifications or even continue on to a degree and take it to whatever level you want.

You are only limited by your imagination, so think and dream big.

Suggestion by Coach Lyzz
Being a certified fitness professional will be a prerequisite for many facilities. While a college degree may not be a requirement, it is beneficial to have a degree, no matter what profession you choose. Management positions often require a college degree.

Certification is usually a voluntary process instituted by a nongovernmental agency in which individuals are recognized for acquired knowledge and skill. It requires assessment, including testing, and an evaluation of education and/or experience. In some instances, individuals who seek certification may already hold a license. Also, certification may be nonvoluntary for some professions (i.e., required by the profession) and may be considered the equivalent of a license to practice (e.g., EMTs, nurses, athletic trainers, occupational therapists).

I highly recommend you obtain a certification from agencies accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or The National Board of Fitness Examiners (NBFE).

Both agencies evaluate the processes and systems used by an organization to identify professional role and scope of practice, develop exam content and provide proper exam administration and scoring.

There are great career opportunities you can explore. Besides the certification links below that are listed in my sources, I suggest you also check out the following sites:

http://www.yogaalliance.org

Best fitness program on TV?
I have seen some other questions about this, but could not find the name of a program on TV. What are some good ones on TV now?

Suggestion by MISS_ME
biggest loser

Suggestion by Lady Callie
Fit TV has amazing shows. I cant tell you one in specific, because they are all interesting and helpful for creating a better lifestyle.

Suggestion by luv2seashore1
I think Billy Blanks offers the most and overall fitness program and he’s on TV but check the time and TV Guide as to when he’s on in your area. He does use band and his tapes are great and quite a great workout. You can buy his tapes too.

Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!
Anyone use PUSH personal training from push.tv? I read about it in a fitness magazine.?
I want to sign up but kinda want to hear any opinions before.
I also attend a gym. This is the way to learn a new routine for weights.

Suggestion by heatedwirez
your much better off going to a regular gym and doing it the old fashion way, dont waste your money with these sorts of things.

Give your answer to this question below!

I would like to know what equipment has to be purchased to use Wii fitness?
I’ve been looking at these items for sale, the Wii fitness boards with remote and I’ve noticed that the packaging has the information: “does not include console”. So how do you use Wii fitness? I viewed the videos and understand that the board is for doing the exercise, and at the same time, viewing your progress on your TV. However, how do you hook up your TV to view the fitness program? Is it because you have to buy the console first?
Regards,

Suggestion by Chris M
Yep you do need the wii console, then get the wii fit board which comes with the wii fit disc.

Suggestion by my ssbb code is 1891 0825 1424
You have to buy a Nintendo Wii to use it… Nintendo “Wii”
“Wii” fit.

Suggestion by gamefreak
yes you need the wii console to use it
wii fit is just game for the wii console so yea you do need a wii console first

Give your answer to this question below!

the name of the fitness exercise guy in the 90′s on tv?
anyone know the name of the fitness exercise guy in the 90′s on tv? He was good looking and maybe named Gil. He used to have a show in the morning and he had an accent. I’m wondering what happened to him and trying to remember his full name.

Suggestion by Cheer For My King♥♥
is it Richard Simmons!

Suggestion by WebFitnessStudio.com
Jack Lalaine (sp?)

 About Polar
The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of “intensity training” by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.
